Rufus Hastings House
“I can remember as a kid being in the Hastings Home. I well remember Pete and Glenn Hastings living there; and, I believe they would be extremely happy to see their home-place restored as part of the Historic District of Kernersville. It will also be interesting, as restoration proceeds, to trace their genealogy to Rufus B. Hastings.
While the House might very well, today, be called a total loss, and was set for demolition, it is our hope to save and restore this house to a condition that a future owner will not only have a house that, according to Forsyth County Tax Records, is over 150 years old to be proud of, but will also have the high end of all the modern conveniences and beauty of a new home. I believe this project will help stabilize the entrance to the Historic District of Kernersville, give the citizens something to be proud of, and certainly something to talk about as our restoration proceeds.”

A two-story frame house with replacement siding, this center hall plan house is one-room deep, with one story rear ell. The side-gabled roof has bracketed cornice, and the full facade porch is supported by turned posts with· sawn brackets and spindle frieze. The exterior end chimneys are in poor condition…
